Johnsburg Youth Committee Programs
The Town of Johnsburg Youth Committee provides recreational, educational, cultural, and social opportunities for local youth. There are several programs offered, funded in combination between the Town of Johnsburg and private foundation grants: Summer Youth Program, Swim Instruction, Winter Ski Lessons, School Year Activities, and Teens. The JYC works with other community groups which provide youth opportunities such as Adirondack Treks, an adventure sports outing club.
For program information check the JYC calendar on this website (link from JCS website also available). Fliers go home from JCS, and are listed on Jottings and Facebook which announce opportunities and indicate how to sign up.

PROGRAMS
Summer Youth Program, Director Ann Dingman
A free six-week summer morning program open to K-12 in-district students where participants play games, practice sports, create arts and crafts. The participants can choose to participate in an all-day field trip on Mondays or a library trip on Wednesdays. Usually during the 6 week period, there is a theatrical or music performance which YP will attend. Lunches are available through the Adirondack Outreach Center for any child attending YP. Round-trip bus transportation is available for most of the town; unfortunately, North River and the east side of the Hudson River are not serviced by the bus.

Swim Instruction Program
A five-week progressive swim program held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays at the Grunblatt Memorial Beach and open to K-12 children from 12:30-2:30PM. The public beach is closed during the instructional period. Children are encouraged to come, not just to learn to swim, but to become a terrific swimmer by improving known strokes, building stamina through distance swims, and learning general water safety. If a swimmer does not participate in YP during the morning, parents must arrange transportation to the beach. Return bus transportation at 2:30 PM is provided along the morning YP route. Sign ups occur May-June.

School Year Activities, Director Kate Hartley
Want to see the rest of the universe through a huge telescope? Want to learn how to make chocolate? healthy snacks? Learn to knit? Learn to dance? Want to camp? How about an extra art class after school? Or creating mosaic tiles? Or geocaching? Vacation week “camps”? Kate puts together a variety of things to do throughout the school year which appeal to a variety of age levels. She is always seeking adults with talent to share with kids as the activity agenda is only limited by the number of participating adults. JCS is particularly supportive of these JYC programs, providing activity space, copy services, and bus transportation to Ski Bowl Park or TPCC.

WINTER
Winter Ski Lessons, Director Ann Dingman
Every child in the Johnsburg School District receives a free ski pass each season. Gore offers alpine ski instruction to kids for six Sundays a season , which the JYC subsidizes.Transportation to either lesson site must be provided by parents. Signups for this program have closed for 2021.
Nordic instruction is provided at modest cost by JCS coaching staff and Adirondack Treks' instructors. Equipment is available through Treks, a sub-committee of JYC.
In early December, the JYC holds a gear exchange fundraiser. Families can get ski equipment for free or a small donation. If you have outgrown skis or boots, helmet or poles, snow boards or X-country skis, bring them with you to exchange. Please make sure your equipment is in safe condition. We do not accept OLD straight skis. Most of the equipment we have comes from the generosity of the Higley family, owners of The Sports Page in Glens Falls, NY.

Community Requests for Funding
The JYC supports community requests for funding help as it can. We have supported soccer teams which practice at The Dome, the annual Christmas Performance at TPCC, piano and guitar lessons held at TPCC, and offered help with adventure trips to the Bronx Zoo and the Natural History Museum and Hayden Planetarium.
Any community group who wishes to apply for funding support must fill out a request and submit a final report to JYC. A request can be sent to Box 23, Johnsburg, NY 12843 or by email to kate.jyc@gmail.com
